Bella’s Mozzarella in Carrozza

Mozzarella in Carrozza….the adult grilled cheese sandwich. I really love the texture the brioche bread gives to this sandwich. Serve this grilled cheese with your favorite soup, like the roasted tomato above. Or serve as an appetizer with some marinara for dipping. With air frying you can spray oil, brush oil or drizzle oil on your product. For this sandwich, I drizzle with olive oil, it makes the sandwich cripier.

Instructions

Sandwich

Cut the crust off the bread and place a slice or slice and a half of mozzarella in between two pieces of bread.

Set up a breading station.

In a bowl, whisk together the eggs. Have another bowl with flour, season with salt and pepper. In another bowl have the bread crumbs and parmesan cheese. Start with your first sandwich and dip it in the flour, then dip into the egg, then dip into the bread crumbs. Pat the bread crumbs all around. Set on a cookie sheet and dip the rest of the sandwiches. Replenish any of the egg, flour or bread crumbs if you need to, depending on how many sandwiches you are making.

Pre heat air fryer to 400* let preheat for 5 minutes. Add sandwiches to the air fryer and drizzle with olive oil. Cook for 9 minutes, flipping half way thru the cooking time. When you flip the sandwich drizzle some more olive oil, it will help brown the sandwich.

Serve with your favorite soup or with a small bowl of marinara for dipping.

Marinara

Heat a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the olive oil to the pan, allowing it to warm for 1 minute, then add the garlic and sauté it for 2 – 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until it’s golden and fragrant.

Add the crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar, oregano, basil and crushed red pepper flakes (optional), stirring to combine. Simmer the sauce for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, then season it with additional salt, pepper to taste.
